Mr. Hoyt just received word that three Juniors (Teven, Gracie and Jadyn) have been accepted to show artwork at the Statewide High School Invitational Art Exhibition! The show will be displayed at the beautiful Eisentrager-Howard Gallery at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and will run from February 27th to March 13th. The School of Art, Art History & Design will jury the show and select the recipients of the 2019 Nebraska Young Artist Awards. Congrats Teven, Gracie, and Jadyn!!!

The basketball games scheduled tonight vs Twin Loup in Taylor have been postponed due to road conditions in the Twin Loup area. The AD's are working on rescheduling. The Mullen Wrestling Invite for tomorrow is still on schedule as planned.
Due to the current weather conditions, South Loup has made the decision to cancel the Wrestling meet that was scheduled for today, Friday, January 18, 2019. As of right now, we do not believe the meet will be rescheduled.

Update on some big changes at Mullen High School. Over the holiday break, we were able to have new main doors installed at the high school on the west side of the building and we have updated the security system. Mullen High School is now locked down, which is exciting news for the safety of our school. With these changes, it has created some new protocols for entering the building. From now on, all none key holders/none staff members will be required to buzz into the school, sign in, grab a visitor badge, and sign out when you leave. This is the protocol that both Mullen High School and Mullen Elementary will follow as it meets the requirements set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education. With the updates to the security entry system, this has created a change in all cardholders status as it makes the old white key cards obsolete. THE WHITE KEY CARDS WILL NO LONGER WORK. If you have a gym/weight room membership, you will be required to come to the high school office to get your new key faub from Mr. Kuncl, Mr. Kvanvig or Pam Ginkens. The process does not take very long and if you call ahead, we will be able to have it completed when you arrive. Thank you for your flexibility while we make these updates for the safety of our school.

At the Paxton tournament on December 20, participating teams including Mullen, Paxton, Garden County, and Maywood-Hayes Center, are going to have a Black Out Cancer Fundraiser tournament. The teams will wear their Black Out Cancer shirts and proceeds will go to cancer research or to someone in the community. Black Out Cancer has raised $15,000 for the fight against cancer in the past two years with the help of high schools from across the state. We want you to join the fight against cancer. How It Works Participating teams and their fans wear the same Black Out Cancer shirts during basketball warm ups and sell the shirts to their fans. It is very similar to a “Pink Out” in volleyball, but schools from across the state wear the shirts on the same week. This year the Black Out Cancer week will be from Monday, December 17th through Saturday, December 22nd. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the fight against cancer. This is a 100% volunteer effort by Adam Stolzer and Chase Hoffschneider. Shirts are sold and the donations go towards fighting cancer. Donations will be given to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for Cancer Research or the donations will be given to someone who is battling Cancer. How do shirt sales work? Shirt sales will close on Friday, December 7th. Cancer affects everyone in Nebraska. It is impossible for someone to not know an individual who has been directly affected by cancer. STATE VOLLEYBALL Facility Entrance: Everyone will enter the facility on the NORTH side of the building. There will be an elevator to the lower level (gym floor) available for anyone who may need it. The pass gate will open for teams 1 hour and a half prior to the first game and tickets will go on sale one hour prior for fans and spectators. Following matches fans when exiting should exit through the lower north doors at court level and will not be allowed to go up and out the main entrance. Admission is $9.00 for adults and $6.00 for students.

A huge thank you to Dominique Werner for creating a breakout for the 5th grade students. The 5th graders were put into two teams. Then, they had to answer questions based on what they have been learning in their new reading curriculum to unlock 3 boxes. After unlocking each box, they were given a new clue to help find the next box. The winning team won a prize! Thank you again Doe! The students had a lot of fun and it was challenging!

Awesome day for Mullen Cross Country!! Molly Paxton finished 7th and Trevor Kuncl finished 14th at the Class D district meet in Bridgeport to qualify for the NSAA State Cross Country meet in Kearney next Friday, October 19. Unfortunately Hayden Jennings finished outside the top 15 and did not qualify for state but congrats on a great cross country season. As always it’s great day to be a Bronco!!

Sixth grade art class tried out “Quote Connections” today and then did a Gallery walk to hear about other people’s quotes!
Students of the month are drawn from tickets that can be earned every day for doing exceptional things throughout the school day. Each month the tickets are trashed after the drawing and new ones have to be earned in order to win the next month. Both winners get a shirt and the high school student that wins gets 10 free snack machine tickets or premier parking for 1 month. A student may only win once per school year but can win other prizes if drawn more than one time. Another great day for a Bronco cross country team at a very competitive Gordon-Rushville invite. Molly Paxton medaled in 3rd place out of 40 runners. Trevor Kuncl finished in 13th place and Hayden Jennings finished 26th out of 66 runners in the high school division. All runners improved their times! It’s a great day to be a Bronco!!

Wow! It was a great day for Bronco Cross County. Molly Paxton medaled 12th out of 48, Trevor Kuncl medaled 14th and Hayden Jennings finished 24th out of 67 in the 3.1 high school course. In the middle school division Alex Moore medaled 5th and Jadyn Andersen ran a great first race. It was an awesome showing for the Broncos first meet. Great work Coach Kuncl and the Bronco XC runners!
