Congratulations to Peyton Paxton on being chosen as one of the 48 Nebraska Believers & Achievers finalists. This program is designed to give recognition to Nebraska’s future leaders. Peyton was presented with her award during halftime of the C2 Championship basketball game today.
With Mother Nature being uncooperative the past month, Mullen Public Schools will be in session on Friday March 28, 2025 which was a scheduled Continuous Improvement Planning day. This will allow MPS to account for future weather conditions that may be unsavory.

She not only picks up after all of us but also holds us accountable for doing our part. Her dedication is especially evident in the locker rooms, which stay fresh and spotless every day—even during football season!

The next regular meeting of the Mullen Board of Education will be Monday, March 10, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. Upon advertisement, a draft of the agenda will be available for public inspection on the school website, the NASB Sparq website, and by request to the Superintendent’s office during regular office hours.

Mullen Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday March 4, 2025 due to the blizzard warning forecasted to affect travel in our school district.

The 2025 FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) Peer Education Conference was held on Monday, February 24, at the Holiday Inn in Kearney, Nebraska, with the theme, “Find Your Spot in the World – Lead with Purpose.” The conference brought together 330 students and advisers from 42 FCCLA chapters across Nebraska for a day of leadership development, peer education, and community engagement.
The event featured an exciting lineup of activities, including keynote addresses, breakout sessions, and recognition ceremonies. The keynote speaker, Tyler Cronin from Lincoln, captivated attendees with his motivational talk on "Marking Your Mark on the World," inspiring students to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
Mullen was awarded the Capture the Action: Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety (FACTS) 1st Place Trophy for their efforts to combat distracted driving. Peyton Paxton and Maggie Haesler conducted a distracted driving experiment to see how different distractions impact teen drivers. They created a video showcasing the experiment and interviews from the participants and Sheriff Yost about the dangers of distracted driving. Then they shared their presentation with community members and students in grades 6-12.

My name is Cecilia Coons, but most people call me Cece. I live in Mullen with my ten-year-old son, Zach. He is in fourth grade at Mullen Public Schools. I have worked at the school for ten years as a paraprofessional. I enjoy being outdoors, traveling and attending my son’s extracurricular activities.
I graduated from Mullen Public Schools in 2009. I attended college at Chadron State and obtained my bachelor’s degree in business in May 2014. However, I decided to return by taking online classes in the fall of 2021, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education. I graduated in May of 2024.
I wanted to become a teacher because I enjoy working with students and seeing them grow as individuals. Teaching has always been a dream of mine and I am looking forward to fulfilling my dream. Being a paraprofessional for ten years has given me the skills I feel necessary to be a successful 9-12 special education educator. I am eager to begin this journey!
I love that Mullen Public Schools has great staff, who are welcoming and encouraging. The atmosphere of teamwork between teachers, paras, and administration is strong. Working for Mullen Public Schools has been an amazing experience, and I cannot wait to continue working in this positive environment.

I’m excited to share that I am starting my teaching journey at Mullen Public Schools. I am originally from Stuart, NE, but I moved to Mullen in 2022 and have been a paraprofessional at Mullen Public Schools for the past two school years. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2021 and recently pursued my master’s degree in Family and Consumer Science Education. I will officially graduate in May. My passion for teaching comes from my love for helping students grow not only academically but also in skills that will serve them beyond the classroom. I believe in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel valued and empowered. What I love most about Mullen Public Schools is the dedication to student academic success and the close-knit atmosphere that makes every student feel seen and supported. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to take on this next chapter as a teacher here at Mullen Public Schools.
